Festus Keyamo Receive Backing on Allocation of Airstrips to Oyedepo, Others

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has received crucial backing from the Forum of Security Experts (FOSE) for his decision to allocate private airstrips to prominent individuals and organizations.

This includes the recent approval for the construction of a private airstrip at Canaanland, the headquarters of Bishop David Oyedepo's Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, in Ota, Ogun State.

The initiative aims to streamline travel for worshippers and guests attending large-scale events such as Shiloh, the church’s annual convention. Bishop Oyedepo expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, "Our members can now land and park their aircraft at Canaanland, enabling easier access for worshippers and guests from across the country and beyond."

Despite some National Assembly members raising security concerns and calling for the revocation of private airstrip licenses, Keyamo has clarified that no directive has been issued by the House of Representatives to revoke any licenses. He remains confident that further explanations will alleviate legislative concerns, emphasizing the critical role private airstrips play in advancing Nigeria’s aviation and economic sectors.

"By the time we explain to them how private airstrips work and the processes they undergo by our agencies before the final approval, they will be satisfied," Keyamo stated on X, formerly known as Twitter.

FOSE, represented by Danladi Adamu, commended Keyamo’s commitment to enhancing the aviation sector, highlighting the broad benefits of private airstrips, including economic growth, job creation, and improved access to remote areas for humanitarian aid and medical evacuations.

The group urged the National Assembly to collaborate with Keyamo’s ministry to advance Nigeria’s aviation security and infrastructure, noting that responsible management of private airstrips can significantly contribute to national security and economic development.
