Esther

The Federal Government of Nigeria is scheduled to meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday, August 26, 2024, in a bid to address the union's recent strike notice.

The strike notice, issued on August 20, highlights ongoing issues within Nigerian universities, many of which stem from an unresolved agreement dating back to 2009.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, confirmed the upcoming meeting, emphasizing the government's dedication to resolving these longstanding concerns.

"We are committed to addressing the union's demands and ensuring that the education sector remains uninterrupted," Prof. Mamman stated.

ASUU's 21-day strike notice underscores persistent problems that have plagued the Nigerian university system for decades, with some issues tracing back as far as 1981.

The meeting aims to find a resolution to these historic disputes, thereby preventing further disruptions in the academic calendar.
