FG Forms Joint Committee to Tackle Food Security, Inflation

Esther

In response to the escalating concerns over food security and inflation, the Federal Government has established a joint committee to address these critical issues.

The committee is composed of five Representatives and five Senators, mirroring the structure of other joint committees in Congress.

This panel will oversee the operations of various food assistance programs, such as the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which are pivotal in mitigating barriers to accessing healthy food.

The formation of this committee comes at a time when high inflation rates are significantly contributing to heightened food insecurity globally.

The committee's mandate includes monitoring the impacts of soaring prices of food, energy, and fertilizers on food security, as well as proposing measures to alleviate these pressures.

The Joint Committee on Food Security and Inflation will also benefit from the expertise of the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO), which plays a crucial role in supporting legislative processes.

The GPO's involvement ensures that the committee's findings and recommendations are effectively communicated and implemented.

Additionally, the committee will conduct studies and provide administrative coordination between the House and Senate, similar to the functions of other joint committees.
