FG Plans to Concession 5 Major International Airports in Nigeria

The Nigerian government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, is embarking on a significant initiative to concession five major international airports.

This move is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the country's aviation sector, which has been plagued by deteriorating infrastructure and inefficiencies.

The airports slated for concession include Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Port Harcourt International Airport, Aminu Kano International Airport, and Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced these plans during a meeting with the Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Keyamo emphasized the urgent need to address infrastructure decay and improve service quality, stating that "given Nigeria's geographical location, the country is well-positioned to be the aviation hub for Africa and the world."

The government's decision to involve IATA as an advisory partner highlights a strategic approach to attract both local and foreign investments. This aligns with the administration's commitment to reposition Nigeria's aviation sector to meet global standards.

The involvement of international stakeholders like IATA suggests a focus on transparency and adherence to best practices in the concession process.

By opening the market to investors, the government aims to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery at these key airports. This initiative is expected to create opportunities for economic growth and development within the aviation industry.
