Vice-President Kashim Shettima recently convened a meeting to address the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) on the imperative of enhancing electricity access across Nigeria.
During this session, Shettima commended the REA for its ongoing electrification projects but explained the necessity for improved public relations. He suggested that the agency should engage more effectively with the media to better communicate its efforts and achievements.

Shettima also proposed involving Rukaiya El-Rufai, Special Adviser on NEC and Climate Change, in a presentation to the National Economic Council (NEC). This move aims to bolster the agency's visibility and integrate its initiatives within broader national economic strategies.
REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu provided insights into the agency's funding sources and highlighted substantial projects, including a notable 12-megawatt plant in Maiduguri.
Aliyu emphasized that the new management is focusing on six strategic areas, particularly the National Electrification and Strategic Implementation Plan (NESIP). This plan is designed to align with the government's vision for sustainable and inclusive energy development.
