FIFA Imposed a 6 Month Ban on Samuel Eto'o for Misconduct During Cameroon-Brazil Clash

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed a six-month ban on Samuel Eto'o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), preventing him from attending any matches involving Cameroon's men's and women's teams at all age levels.

This decision, effective immediately, stems from violations of Articles 13 ("Offensive conduct and violations of fair play principles") and 14 ("Misconduct by players and officials") of FIFA's Disciplinary Code.

The infractions are linked to an incident during Cameroon's last-16 game against Brazil on September 11, 2024, in Bogota, Colombia.

The South Americans won the match 3-1 after extra time, but the game was marred by controversy when Eto'o and the Cameroon delegation vehemently protested a penalty that led to Brazil's equalizer.

FIFA stated, "The sanction imposed on Mr. Eto'o will prevent him from attending matches of both the men's and women's national teams of FECAFOOT at any category or age group." Despite this ban, Eto'o will retain his role as president of FECAFOOT.

This is not the first time Eto'o has faced disciplinary action. In July, he was fined $200,000 for an ethics violation related to a brand deal with an online gambling firm.

Additionally, he has been in conflict with Cameroon's sports ministry over the appointment of Belgian Marc Brys as the men's team coach, which he deemed "illegal."

Eto'o, who was elected president of FECAFOOT in 2021, now faces a challenge in navigating these turbulent times for Cameroonian football.
