Massive fire broke out at the Katsina Government House, causing extensive damage to the premises on the morning of September 2, 2024.
The blaze primarily affected the red chamber, an annexe to the governor's office, and parts of the governor's chamber. Despite the severity of the incident, there were no reported casualties.
The fire was first noticed around 6 am, as confirmed by a local resident, Alhaji Bashir, who observed a fire service truck rushing to the scene shortly after his morning prayers. Efforts to reach the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, for comments were unsuccessful.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda was not in Katsina at the time of the incident; he was attending a zonal town hall meeting in Daura as part of a statewide tour aimed at fostering grassroots involvement in governance and development initiatives. This absence has raised questions about the response and recovery process.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are currently investigating the incident. The government house had recently undergone a multi-billion-naira refurbishment, with the governor relocating to the office only four months prior.
