Floyd Mayweather Jr. and rapper Tyga are embroiled in a legal battle after being sued by Miami jeweller Leonard Sulaymanov.
The lawsuit, filed on August 23, 2024, in a federal court in Miami, accuses the celebrities of failing to pay for millions of dollars worth of jewelry.
According to the Miami New Times, Sulaymanov alleges that Mayweather and his company, The Money Team, violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) Act.
The jeweller also accuses Mayweather of "fraud, civil conspiracy, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and civil theft."
The lawsuit claims that in June 2021, Sulaymanov met with Mayweather and sold him an array of high-end items, including an Audemars Piguet watch, two Richard Mille watches, a Patek Philippe watch, a Rolex, a diamond ring, and a diamond necklace.
Despite receiving only $267,000 for these items, Mayweather allegedly left Miami without settling the full amount.
Sulaymanov documented the transaction with photos of the jeweller and Mayweather’s cash payment.
Two weeks later, Sulaymanov reportedly traveled to Las Vegas to meet both Mayweather and Tyga. During this meeting, Tyga, whose real name is Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson, agreed to purchase a Rolex Day-Date for $79,000. However, neither celebrity fulfilled their payment obligations.
The lawsuit asserts that the "defendants used the plaintiff’s reputation, business, and inventory to systemically steal and convert the plaintiff’s watches and jewellery to their own without paying the full and fair price."
Sulaymanov is seeking an overdue balance of over $3,883,657.00 from Mayweather and Tyga. He is also demanding compensation for "humiliation, embarrassment, and mental anguish."
