Former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido has openly criticized Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for embarking on a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom.
This decision comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with severe economic challenges and security issues, leaving many citizens questioning the priorities of their leadership.
Lamido expressed his disapproval through a Facebook post dated October 3, where he questioned the president's empathy towards the suffering masses. He wrote, "Does President Tinubu have the human empathy, compassion, love, care, and concern to ponder and reflect on Nigerians’ dire situations while in the comfort of Europe?"
The criticism highlights a broader sentiment of dissatisfaction among Nigerians regarding how their leaders balance personal time with national responsibilities.
Many feel that the president's vacation is ill-timed, given the pressing issues facing the country.
Defending the president's decision, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, stated that the trip was part of Tinubu's annual leave.
Onanuga explained that the president would use this period as a "working vacation" to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms. "He will return to the country after the leave expires," Onanuga assured.
