Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola has raised concerns about the potential for a revolution in Nigeria.

Speaking at a national dialogue in Abuja, Aregbesola highlighted the "worsening economic, political, and spiritual conditions" as key factors driving the country towards possible upheaval. He pointed to the growing disparity between the affluent minority and the impoverished majority, alongside the lack of guaranteed rights, as catalysts for unrest.

Aregbesola, who previously served as Nigeria's Minister of Interior, emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues, stating, "We have seen worsening economic even political and spiritual conditions of Nigerians." He argued that the current trajectory could lead to a situation where "revolution becomes an acceptable option for many."

The former governor also criticized the existing executive system of governance, advocating instead for a transition to a parliamentary system. He contended that it is impractical for a single leader to govern a nation of 220 million people effectively, suggesting that "a collective arrangement," such as a parliamentary system, would better support Nigeria's needs.

His remarks come at a time when Nigeria is grappling with significant economic challenges. According to Fitch Solutions, the Naira is projected to depreciate significantly, reaching N1,993 per US dollar by 2028.

This devaluation is expected to exacerbate import costs and weaken consumer purchasing power, further straining the country's economy.
