Former Valencia Footballer Tragically Loses Life in Spain's Deadly Floods

Former Valencia footballer, Jose Castillejo, tragically lost his life at the age of 28 in the devastating flash floods that have recently struck Spain. The catastrophic event, described as the worst flooding in decades, has claimed the lives of at least 158 people, with the death toll feared to rise as more individuals remain missing.

Castillejo, who was part of Valencia's academy until his youth stage, played for several teams in the Valencian Community, including C.D. Eldense during the 2015/16 season.

The LaLiga side paid tribute to Castillejo on social media, stating, "We regret the death of Jose Castillejo, a victim of the Dana disasters." His former club, C.D. Eldense, also expressed their condolences, saying, "Terrible news comes our way due to the catastrophic DANA. CD Eldense deeply regrets the passing of José Castillejo at the age of 28, a former blue-and-red player in the 2015/2016 season. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends."

The floods were caused by an isolated depression at high levels (DANA), which resulted in a year's worth of rain falling in just hours in the southern region of Spain. The Spanish army has been called in to assist with recovery efforts, and the entire country is observing three days of mourning.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that all games in the Valencian region would be rescheduled, and a minute's silence will be held at all LaLiga games this weekend in memory of the victims.
