Fuel Price: NNPC is still the Sole Buyer of Dangote Petrol Refinery - Marketers

Esther

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) continues to maintain its position as the sole off-taker of petrol from the Dangote Refinery.

This exclusivity persists despite governmental efforts to open direct purchasing channels for independent marketers. As confirmed by Dele Tajudeen, the South-West Zonal Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), discussions with Dangote Group executives have been productive, yet the existing agreement between NNPC and Dangote remains intact.

The Vice President of Dangote has acknowledged that while there is a directive from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Petroleum Resources to commence sales to registered marketers, the current agreement with NNPC "still subsists." Until this agreement is terminated by either party, direct sales to other marketers will remain on hold.

This situation is further complicated by recent fuel price adjustments by NNPC, which have seen prices rise to N1,030 per liter in Abuja.
