Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State in response to the escalating fuel prices has approved a policy granting two days off duty per week for officers on Grade Level (GL) 01 to 14.

This decision, announced on September 11, 2024, aims to alleviate the financial burden on public servants who are increasingly challenged by commuting costs.
The Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, emphasized that this measure is intended to provide "substantial relief" and enhance service delivery through a more motivated workforce.
Onasanya noted that officers on GL 15 to 17 would continue with the previously established one-day off duty per week.
He urged all accounting officers to implement the policy in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) by working out the necessary modalities to ensure that service delivery remains uncompromised.
Governor Abiodun's commitment to worker welfare was highlighted, with Onasanya pointing out that the extension from one to two days off for lower-grade officers is expected to reduce their financial strain and boost productivity.
This policy follows an earlier initiative introduced in July 2023, which provided one day off work for all grade levels.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that this gesture is part of the governor's broader efforts to support workers amid the economic challenges posed by rising fuel prices. The policy reflects a strategic approach to maintaining workforce morale and efficiency during tough economic times.
