Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved a new National Minimum Wage of ₦70,000 for state and local government workers.

This announcement was made by Emmanuel Fashe, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), following a private meeting with the governor.

State government employees are set to start receiving the new wage from August, while local government workers will see the increase beginning in September.

The implementation will initially use the consequential adjustment table from 2019 until an updated table is released by the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission.

Fashe assured the state and local government staffers of the governor’s determination to prioritize their welfare.

He stated, "Whatever the worker was getting as the present national minimum wage of ₦32,000 as it applies to Adamawa, that same will be applied in terms of percentages in implementation of the new minimum wage."
