Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the conversion of ad-hoc staff across 33 local government councils to permanent positions. This decision was unveiled during the inauguration of the newly-built Local Government House and Staff Training School in Ibadan, the state capital.

Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of this transition, stating, "We will continue to work with the local government so that our vision at the state level can also be sold to the local government administrators. When there is synergy, we can achieve more." He highlighted that the conversion process would adhere strictly to due employment procedures, which are expected to be completed within four weeks.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to address workforce gaps and enhance productivity within local governments. The governor also shared plans to renovate and transform facilities within the State Secretariat by 2027, aiming to create a more conducive working environment for staff.

Furthermore, Makinde reiterated his administration's commitment to financial accountability, revealing that over N18 billion in pension backlogs and N15 billion in gratuities have been paid to retirees. "It was a home-grown way of ensuring that outstanding pension and gratuities are paid," he explained, underscoring the state's dedication to improving governance and public service delivery.
