Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has urged both the federal government and northern states of Nigeria to implement policies aimed at fostering development, peace, and prosperity in the region.
Speaking at a stakeholders' roundtable organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Abuja on November 19-20, 2024, Governor Zulum emphasized the need for creating platforms that facilitate skills acquisition and employment opportunities for the youth in northern Nigeria.
Governor Zulum highlighted the importance of reviewing the current tax reform bill, suggesting that certain clauses should be repealed to prevent further hardship for citizens.
He stated, "The federal executive council and the National Assembly must consider amending the tax reform bill to alleviate the burdens it places on our people."
This appeal is part of a broader dialogue among regional leaders who are advocating for structural reforms and economic empowerment initiatives.
The governor's remarks align with sentiments expressed by other leaders, such as Vice President Shettima, who has charged the region's leaders to find lasting solutions to northern problems, and President Tinubu, who noted that "North’s development is key to Nigeria’s prosperity."
