Gunmen Attack Military Checkpoint in Abia, Leaving Two Soldiers Dead

An attack on a military checkpoint by unidentified gunmen occurred in Ekenobizi, a village that borders the states of Abia and Imo.


This assault resulted in the deaths of two soldiers, marking a somber day for the region.


The Joint Task Force South East Operation Udoka confirmed the attack, attributing it to the Eastern Security Network (ESN) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, speaking on behalf of the Joint Task Force, detailed the events: "At the early hours of today, troops of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDOKA deployed at a checkpoint along Umuahia-Owerri Road in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State came under attack carried out by the irredentist group of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN)."


Despite the soldiers' efforts to repel the attackers, forcing them to retreat with possible gunshot wounds, the confrontation claimed the lives of two brave soldiers.
