A tragic helicopter crash occurred in the mountains northwest of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. The Air Dynasty helicopter, an Eurocopter AS350, took off from Kathmandu international airport at 1:54 p.m. local time and was en route to Syaprubeshi.
However, it lost contact with air traffic control just three minutes after takeoff. The crash site was identified in the Suryachaur area, a forested mountain region within the Shivapuri National Park of Nuwakot district, approximately 57 km (35 miles) from Kathmandu.

All five individuals on board were killed. The victims included the Nepali pilot, Captain Arun Malla, and four Chinese nationals: Jutad Tang, Jie Li, Yiyad Wu, and Zeming Xie.
Local residents reported seeing a fire emanating from the forest, which led them to alert the authorities. Police and army rescuers, along with two rescue helicopters, were dispatched to the scene to recover the bodies.
This incident adds to the grim history of aviation accidents in Nepal, where more than 360 people have died in plane or helicopter crashes over the past 24 years.
The challenging terrain, characterized by high peaks and tabletop runways, contributes massively to the frequency of such accidents. Just two weeks prior, a passenger plane crashed shortly after taking off from Kathmandu airport, resulting in 18 fatalities and one injury.
A government investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the helicopter crash. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal confirmed that the helicopter lost contact with the tower shortly after takeoff, but further details are yet to be disclosed.
