Rapper and music mogul, Sean "Diddy" Combs has been placed on suicide watch at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center as he awaits trial on serious charges.
According to reports, Combs is facing allegations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The indictment, unsealed on September 12, 2024, details a decades-long "criminal enterprise" that allegedly coerced women into performing sexual acts.
Combs, who appeared in court on Wednesday, proposed a $50 million bail package in an attempt to avoid the notorious detention center, but his request was denied by the judge.
His legal team, including Marc Agnifilo and Teny R. Geragos, argued that the conditions at the facility are "horrific" and "not fit for pre-trial detention." Despite their efforts, Combs remains incarcerated, with his lawyers maintaining that he is "an innocent man."
The rapper's net worth, once estimated at $740 million in 2019, has massively decreased to approximately $400 million as of June 2024, largely due to the ongoing allegations against him. Inside the detention center, Combs, now known by the Bureau of Prisons as Register Number 37452-054, follows a strict daily routine.
He receives a 6:00 a.m. breakfast of cereal, fruit, and a breakfast cake, and must have his bed made by 7:30 a.m. Inmates at the facility are subject to at least five official counts every 24 hours, during which they must be standing at their bedside.
Cameron Lindsay, a retired warden of MDC-Brooklyn, highlighted the dangers Combs faces due to his celebrity status and the nature of the allegations. "His huge celebrity status and the allegations of violence against women make him a very attractive target for assault," Lindsay stated. "In the subculture – in the world of jails and prisons – to deliver a hit on somebody like him would be considered a badge of honor."
Despite the grim circumstances, Combs' legal team insists he is "strong, healthy, and focused on his defense." They are committed to fighting the case and have full confidence in both their legal strategy and the truth. As the trial date approaches, the rapper's future remains uncertain, with his next court appearance scheduled soon.
