Former Real Madrid defender, Nacho Fernandez has explained his decision to leave Santiago Bernabeu after 24 years at the club.
The Spaniard said his decision to leave the club he joined at the age of 10, was not taken all of a sudden. Nacho made 364 appearances for Los Blancos across various competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing 10 assists.
The Spanish international has a host of honours to his name, including six UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga titles and five FIFA Club World Cup titles. EURO 2024 winners (according to the relevance via Madrid XTRA) were declared: "decided to leave?" At least in my case.
"It takes months, it takes days... and even though I was lucky enough to experience the best periods at Real Madrid, the life of a footballer has its difficult moments, even if it looks easy from the outside.
“Real Madrid is a club that demands you day by day, that demands you to be well, to win every game.
“… I’ve been at the club since I was 10 years old, and I left at 34. Again, I was lucky because I had the opportunity to see the best of Real Madrid.
"But it's hard to be there every day, prove yourself, fight and get new players. "Ultimately, these demands are mentally draining. My motivation has always been great, but I'm human. I think every day, every week, you make decisions until you get to that point where you say, 'This is it, this is it.'"
