I Don't Give a Damn - El-Rufai tells Social Media Critics

Esther

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai declared his indifference to the opinions and misinterpretations of his social media posts.

This declaration came in response to a wave of backlash following a recent post where he addressed issues of envy and hatred among Nigerians, particularly within the political class.

El-Rufai took to his verified X account to express his unyielding stance against his critics. "Interpret, mis-interpret or re-interpret any posts by me or any other as you wish. I frankly don’t give a damn," he wrote. He further added, "Abuse and insult with no basis. By all means, pass your judgment in ignorance and bigotry. Nothing will change. What will be will be, in sha Allah."

The former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister emphasized that the insulting and abusive responses directed at him on social media were baseless and would not affect him. He accused his critics of being judgmental "in ignorance and bigotry."

El-Rufai's comments were linked to his discussion on the emergence of Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate in the United States.

He used this example to highlight what he perceives as the deteriorating competence, capacity, and commitment of Nigeria's political leadership. "No matter what, the incurable virus of envy has to be confronted and degraded, if not cured if Nigeria is to achieve its manifest destiny of greatness and leadership of the Black Race. I pray this can be realised," he stated. However, his remarks did not sit well with everyone.

Bamikole Omishore, an aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, criticized El-Rufai, accusing him of displaying envy and hate towards former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Omishore argued that El-Rufai lacked the moral authority to discourage envy and hatred given his past actions.
