Nigerian singer Portable, known for his hit track "Zazu Zeh," has stirred controversy by asserting that rapper Olamide did not make him famous.
During a fiery TikTok live stream, Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, declared, "Olamide didn’t blow me. I was already famous before he jumped on my song. 'Zazu Zeh' blew from heaven." He emphasized that while Olamide supported him, his fame was primarily due to his own efforts and divine intervention.
Portable rose to prominence in 2021 when Olamide featured on "Zazu Zeh," but he insists that his journey to stardom had begun prior to their collaboration. He rhetorically questioned, "Is it Olamide that posted me and got me famous?" and further explained, "He’s my helper, yes, but I was already famous before he helped me. These are two different things."
Despite acknowledging Olamide's initial support, Portable expressed disappointment over the lack of continued backing from the rapper, stating, "Since that time that Olamide helped me, has he ever posted me on his story?" He also accused the music industry of sidelining him, claiming he has been blacklisted by some insiders.
While critical of Olamide, Portable praised other contributors to his career, such as Tunde Ednut and Skepta, highlighting their roles in his rise to fame. He recounted how an old video of him performing freestyle tracks first caught the attention of fans online, asserting, "Let me remind you all, if you’ve forgotten, it was an old video that brought me to the spotlight."
Portable's outspoken remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some fans criticizing him for being ungrateful to Olamide, while others defend his right to assert his independence and talent. Despite the backlash, Portable remains a polarizing figure who continues to dominate conversations in the entertainment industry.
