'If It Doesn't Work Here, Go Abroad' - Obi Encourages Nigerian Students

Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi has openly endorsed the idea of Nigerian youths seeking opportunities abroad if they find it challenging to achieve their goals within Nigeria.

This stance aligns with the growing trend known as the "Japa Syndrome," a term derived from Nigerian slang meaning "to escape" or "flee," often used to describe the act of seeking a better life overseas.

During a recent visit to educational institutions in Anambra State, Obi made a massive donation of ₦60 million, allocating ₦50 million to Peter University in Achina/Onneh and ₦10 million to the School of Nursing Sciences in Adazi-Nnukwu.

Addressing students at these institutions, he emphasized the importance of education as a transformative tool for national development and encouraged them to pursue academic excellence.

Obi shared his personal experiences, including the story of his former personal assistant, Michael-Jude, who moved to the UK for further studies. He humorously noted that he is now in search of a new personal assistant.

Obi reassured students that migrating for greener pastures is a valid option, stating, "If it is not going to work for you here, go to where it will work for you." He expressed confidence that those who migrate will eventually return to contribute to Nigeria's progress once the country improves.
