Acting Inspector-General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has been sentenced to six months in prison for contempt of court.

This decision followed his repeated failure to appear in court despite being summoned seven times. The court found Masengeli guilty of "disobeying court orders," a charge that has sparked significant public and political reactions.

Masengeli's conviction stems from his blatant disregard for the judicial system, as he continuously snubbed court summons. His actions have been widely criticized, with some viewing them as a direct challenge to the rule of law. Despite his position as a senior police officer, the court's ruling underscores that no one is above the law.

The sentencing has elicited mixed reactions across Kenya. While some leaders, such as Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, have defended Masengeli, others have condemned his actions. The case has also drawn attention to broader issues within the Kenyan police force and the judiciary's role in maintaining accountability.
