F.Adenike

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning against extortion by police officers.

This announcement follows a high-profile case involving officers from the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters in Yenegoa.

The officers, ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, Inspector Adiewere Collins, and Inspector Kuromare Marine were accused of extorting ten million naira from a group of young Nigerians.

The IGP's statement, released on Friday, November 8, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the extorted funds have been recovered.

The implicated officers are currently detained and undergoing an orderly room trial.

Egbetokun emphasized, “The Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any act of corruption and police misconduct.”

He further assured the public of severe consequences for any officer found guilty of such offenses, regardless of their rank.

“We take every allegation of extortion and abuse of power extremely seriously,” Egbetokun stated, reinforcing the commitment to investigate all complaints thoroughly.
