Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday made a public appeal to Nigerians, urging them to refrain from reporting police misconduct on social media platforms.
Speaking at the PPROs/Police Communication Experts’ Conference in Asaba, Delta State, Egbetokun emphasized the potential for misinformation when grievances are aired online.

He stated, "We appeal to the public not to resort to social media when reporting the conduct of police officers but rather use the Police Complaints Response Unit."
The IGP highlighted that unverified information shared on social media could undermine the integrity of the police force. Instead, he advocated for using the Police Complaints Response Unit, which he described as having a more structured and accountable process for addressing grievances. This move aims to promote transparency and accountability within the force while ensuring that complaints are handled appropriately.
