The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, at the Seme border. The arrest occurred during routine passport checks as Bobrisky attempted to leave Nigeria discreetly.

According to a statement by NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo, Bobrisky was intercepted due to his status as a "person of interest" in connection with ongoing investigations and unspecified public concerns.

Bobrisky's legal troubles began earlier in April 2024 when he was sentenced to six months in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse, after allegedly mutilating banknotes during a film premiere.

Although officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports suggested that Bobrisky spent only three weeks there before being moved to a private location, sparking allegations of bribery involving a N15 million payment to secure preferential treatment.

The situation further escalated when a leaked audio recording, shared by social media influencer Martins Ortse (VeryDarkMan), implicated Bobrisky in bribing EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky denied the voice in the recording was his and urged the Falanas, who were mentioned in the recording, to hold VeryDarkMan accountable instead.

Following his arrest, Bobrisky was returned to Lagos for further interrogation and is expected to be handed over to appropriate authorities for additional action. The NIS has assured the public of its commitment to professionalism in border security and handling the case with civility.
