The Tinubu-led federal government has firmly denied reports of another collapse of the National Grid on November 8 2024.
This clarification comes after power outages in certain areas were mistakenly attributed to a grid failure, sparking widespread speculation and concern.
The managers of the national infrastructure took to their official X account to address the rumors, stating unequivocally, "Kindly disregard another grid collapse information being spread. It’s false information!" This statement was intended to reassure citizens that there had been no new incidents affecting the stability of the grid.

Earlier in the week, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had reported two grid collapses, which were attributed to a sudden rise in frequency caused by issues at one of TCN's substations. Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs for TCN, explained that repair efforts are underway to restore full functionality. She noted, "Instability will persist until all major works are completed," but assured Nigerians of TCN's commitment to enhancing the reliability of electricity supply.
These events shows the ongoing challenges within Nigeria's power sector, particularly concerning infrastructure vulnerabilities and the rapid dissemination of misinformation.
The government's prompt clarification aims to mitigate public anxiety and emphasize the importance of accurate communication in maintaining trust and stability.
