The village of Ollolai in central Sardinia, Italy, is extending an invitation to Americans seeking refuge from the political climate following Donald Trump's re-election.
This picturesque village is part of a broader initiative among rural Italian towns to rejuvenate their economies by selling homes for as little as one euro ($1.06).
Ollolai, known for its abundant water features and a historic church built by Basilian monks, offers a vibrant community steeped in ancient traditions and renowned cuisine.
Prospective buyers have the option to choose between homes that require renovation or those that are ready to move into. The village provides local support to assist with practicalities such as arranging viewings and finding contractors.
Mayor Francesco Columbu emphasized the village's focus on attracting American residents, stating, “We just really want, and will focus on, Americans above all.”
He noted that while applications are open to all, Americans will benefit from a fast-track procedure, as they are seen as key to revitalizing the community.
The offerings include $1 homes needing renovations, move-in-ready homes priced at $105,000 (EUR100,000), and free temporary accommodations for remote workers.
