J. Cole Opened Up on Why He Avoided Diss Track with Kendrick Lamar

American rapper J. Cole has shed light on his decision to retract a diss track aimed at fellow artist Kendrick Lamar.

The brief feud between the two began when Lamar dissed both Cole and Drake on a track by Future and Metro Boomin.

In response, J. Cole fired back with his own track, '7 Minute Drill,' where he remarked that Lamar "fell off like the Simpsons." However, during his performance at the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina, Cole took a surprising turn by pausing his set to apologize to Lamar. Explaining his actions further in his latest single, 'Port Antonio,' J. Cole articulated that the controversy was being fueled by those who "wanted blood" and were seeking publicity for profit.

He raps, “I pulled the plug because I saw where that was about to go, they wanted blood, they wanted clicks to make their pockets grow.”

Cole emphasized that continuing the feud would have resulted in losing a friend and gaining an enemy, stating, “I wouldn’t have lost the battle, dog, I would’ve lost a bro, I would’ve gained a foe, and all for what?”
