Anthony Joshua has opened up about his fifth-round knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois during their heavyweight clash at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

The bout saw Dubois retain his IBF heavyweight title in front of a massive crowd of 96,000 spectators.

In a post-match press conference, Joshua attributed his loss to a series of mistakes and a lack of defensive strategy.

He was floored four times before Dubois delivered the decisive blow—a powerful right to the chin that ended the contest.

Reflecting on the fight, Joshua said, “The first round? Overhand right, chin in the air, no defence kaboom.

And it was a bit of a downhill slope from there. Tried to change the tides but it just weren’t my night tonight.”

Despite starting the fifth round strongly, Joshua revealed what went wrong: “I caught him with a good shot I think and then I tried to go for it, and then I got caught with an overhead right, when I was throwing the uppercut.”

The fight highlighted Dubois' aggressive approach and Joshua's inability to adapt, leading to his eventual defeat. This event has sparked discussions among boxing fans and analysts worldwide, emphasizing the importance of strategy and adaptability in the ring.
