Just In: Osun Reports Two Confirmed Cases of Mpox in Ilesa

The Osun State Government has confirmed two cases of monkeypox (Mpox) in the Ilesa-West local government area.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Barr. Jola Akintola, who reassured residents that the situation is being effectively managed.

In a statement released through the Ministry of Information bulletin, Akintola emphasized that there is no need for panic as the state has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to curtail the spread of the disease.

Akintola stated, "We successfully managed COVID-19 and prevented a cholera outbreak. Now, with two confirmed M-pox cases, the EOC has been activated, and stakeholders will meet every Monday to strategize on preventing the spread of the virus." This proactive measure signifies the state's commitment to public health and its readiness to tackle emerging health threats.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also weighed in on the situation, asserting that Mpox outbreaks "can be stopped." This aligns with the Osun State Government's confidence in their ability to manage the outbreak effectively.
