Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a new minimum wage of ₦71,000 for state employees, effective from November. This decision was announced through the governor's verified social media accounts on Tuesday, October 29.
The wage increase is expected to raise the state's monthly salary obligations by approximately ₦6 billion, with an additional ₦7 billion allocated for Local Government Councils.
Governor Yusuf emphasized his administration's commitment to improving living standards and promoting social justice.
"In line with our commitment to social justice and enhancing the standard of living for our workers, we have approved ₦71,000 as the new minimum wage in Kano State," he stated on his Facebook page.
This initiative also includes a substantial boost in the education sector, where the promotion of 20,737 teachers has resulted in an increase of over 340 million naira to their salaries.
The governor commended the state minimum wage implementation committee for its excellent work, highlighting the government's dedication to both education and employee welfare.
