The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) reported a staggering loss of approximately N6 billion due to a 12-day power outage.
This incident severely impacted business and social activities across Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states.
The outage originated from a tripping incident on the 330kV transmission line, which disconnected several northwestern and northeastern states from the national grid.
During this period, KEDCO faced additional challenges as 70 transformers were vandalized, further complicating efforts to restore power.
Sani Bala Sani, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, highlighted the company's strategic response to the crisis. "We are implementing load shedding, prioritizing industrial and commercial feeders to support economic growth, especially in Kano, an industrial hub," he stated.
This approach aimed to mitigate the economic impact by ensuring that key sectors received power during the outage.
Efforts to restore electricity were spearheaded by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which worked diligently to re-establish grid connectivity.
Power was gradually restored, with services resuming across affected communities in the northern region by Wednesday.
