'Keep Scoring and I’ll Shut Up' - John Obi Mikel Responds to Nicolas Jackson [VIDEO]

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel responded to criticisms from current Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

The incident began when Mikel, who played for Chelsea between 2006 and 2017, critiqued Jackson's finishing skills during the Blues' 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Speaking on beIN Sports, Mikel remarked, "We've played OK, we haven't played perfect, but we've played OK. We created chances, we haven't taken them. And [it's] just an example of how Jackson finishes." Jackson, evidently stung by the criticism, fired back after scoring in Chelsea's 6-2 victory over Wolves.

In an Instagram post, he told Mikel to "shut your mouth." Mikel, however, was quick to clarify his stance. On his podcast, The Obi One, he explained, "I really like the guy as a football player. I like him. There's something there as a football player. I haven't said that he's a bad player at all. I've just said that his finishing qualities, it's not there yet."

Mikel further elaborated that his comments were meant to be constructive. "He's a young boy and all I've said is that he needs a more experienced striker to come into the football club to help him, to help him improve, to help him get better," Mikel stated.

He expressed his desire for Jackson to succeed at Chelsea, following in the footsteps of other notable African players like Didier Drogba. "If he plays well I will praise him. If there is something to be said about him, where he needs to improve, I will definitely say it. If he scores every week and tells me to shut up, I'll take that. You know what I mean?"

See some reactions below:

Some agree with Mikel's assessment, while others feel he should be more supportive.

One fan commented, "Mikel you’re not wrong, I have always wondered why Chelsea still keeps Jackson. I complained too much about him last season with my Chelsea friends, I’m an Arsenal fan but I can see all his fxck up, real poor finisher."

Another countered, "You're putting pressure on him and I'm sure you didn't like the pressure put on you when you played.

How many goals did you score at Chelsea Mikel? You can analyze a team and game properly, it's not about harshly criticizing players."
