Kogi: Appeal Court Demands Yahaya Bello's Presence in Court for Arraignment

Esther

The Court of Appeal on Tuesday issued a decisive order mandating Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, to present himself for arraignment.

This directive comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings initiated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is prosecuting Bello for the alleged misappropriation of over 80 billion Naira during his tenure as governor from 2016 to 2024.

The court's ruling also included a restriction on Bello from taking any further steps in the charge until he complies with the arraignment order. This decision overturns a previous judgment by the Kogi State High Court, which had seemingly provided some reprieve to Bello.

Bello's current whereabouts remain unknown following an attempted arrest by EFCC operatives at his Abuja residence a few months ago. The raid was reportedly thwarted by the current Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, who intervened to prevent Bello's capture.
