Kogi Council Elections See Low Voter Turnout

The Local Government elections in Kogi State on Saturday experienced a notably low voter turnout across various polling units. According to reports, many polling stations in Lokoja, the state capital, saw only a handful of voters participating in the electoral process.

Despite the low attendance, the election was described as peaceful and transparent by those who did cast their votes.

The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) was commended for ensuring a smooth voting environment. Security agencies were present at the polling units, and accreditation and voting commenced as scheduled.

However, there were delays in the arrival of sensitive materials at certain locations, such as the Muslim community and Lokoja club polling units, where materials had not arrived by 11:50 AM. In contrast, at the ward A crowder unit, materials were delivered promptly at 8:00 AM, allowing voters to begin casting their ballots early.

A voter named Sunday Shata expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, stating, "Am impressed with the conduct of this Local Government election."

He acknowledged the low turnout but emphasized the importance of the peaceful and transparent nature of the process. The election was also reported to be peaceful in the nine local government areas within the Kogi East senatorial district.
