Kremlin Accuses US, NATO of Collaborating with Ukraine to Launch Attacks on Russia

Kremlin has accused the United States and NATO of aiding Ukraine in a major military incursion into Russia's Kursk region. This event marks the largest invasion of Russian territory by a foreign power since World War II.

The operation began on August 6, 2024, when thousands of Ukrainian troops crossed Russia's western border, aiming to compel Russia into "fair" peace negotiations.

The U.S. has denied any involvement in the planning or execution of the attack, despite reports indicating that weaponry provided by Britain and the U.S. was used on Russian soil.

According to Nikolai Patrushev, an influential veteran Kremlin hawk and head of Russia's Security Council, "The operation in the Kursk region was also planned with the participation of NATO and Western special services. Without their participation and direct support, Kyiv would not have ventured into Russian territory." These claims have been dismissed by Western sources.

Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of Russia's Security Council to discuss "new technical solutions" for what Russia refers to as its special military operation. Patrushev further stated, "Washington's efforts have created all the prerequisites for Ukraine to lose its sovereignty and lose part of its territories."

In response to the incursion, Ukraine has installed a military commandant in the area it now controls, even as Russia has intensified its offensives in eastern Ukraine.

The Russian defense ministry reported that it had repelled a series of Ukrainian attacks along the Kursk frontline. After more than ten days of fighting, Ukraine holds at least 450 square kilometers (175 square miles) of territory, which is less than 0.003% of Russia.
