Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced an increase in the minimum wage to ₦85,000.
This decision reflects the state's commitment to enhancing the living standards of its workforce amidst Nigeria's challenging economic climate.
During an interview on Channels Television's "Politics Tonight," Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that this wage adjustment is not about competing with other states but rather about aligning with Lagos's financial capabilities.
"It is not a competition, so I am not going to say we are paying more than some other people," he stated. "It is a function of affordability and it is a function of capacity."
The Governor also expressed his aspiration to further raise the minimum wage to ₦100,000 by January 2025, provided that conditions remain favorable. "I would like to come back to you in January to say I have been able to increase the minimum wage of Lagos to N100,000," he added, underscoring his desire for Lagosians to feel the government's support.
