The Lagos State Government has urged local youths to consider joining the military, highlighting a concerning trend of low enrollment among Lagos indigenes.
This call to action was made by Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the State Government, during a quarterly meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ikeja.
Mrs. Salu-Hundeyin emphasized that "the security of a nation is everybody’s business," and participating in the military is a vital service to both the state and the nation. She expressed disappointment over the lack of participation from Lagos youths in recent military recruitment efforts, noting that "indigenous youths of the state were not enrolling into the military."
The Federal Government has allocated 150 recruitment slots per state, yet Lagos has been "seriously short-changed" due to insufficient local representation.
Salu-Hundeyin warned that this could disadvantage the state, stressing the importance of equitable representation in the armed forces for balanced national development.
