The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce intensified its operations yesterday, targeting key routes known for traffic disruptions in a determined effort to curb public nuisance and maintain order on the streets. The taskforce conducted raids along Awolowo Way, Falomo, Ikoyi and Lekki, areas notorious for street begging and other forms of public disturbance.
During the operation, 27 individuals were apprehended, including 15 minors, who were found engaging in street begging amidst the bustling traffic. The taskforce's spokesperson emphasized the importance of these actions, stating, "Our mission is to ensure that Lagos remains a city where law and order prevail. Street begging not only disrupts traffic but also poses safety risks to both the beggars and motorists."
The arrested individuals are set to be transferred to government facilities, where they will receive appropriate care and rehabilitation in accordance with the law. This move aligns with the state's commitment to addressing the root causes of street begging and providing support to vulnerable populations.
The Lagos State government has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards activities that contribute to public nuisance, urging residents to cooperate with authorities in maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
