A mass shooting shattered the bustling nightlife of Birmingham's Five Points South district.
The tragic event unfolded near 20th Street and Magnolia Avenue, a popular entertainment hub in the city. According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire just after 11 pm. Officer Truman Fitzgerald confirmed that "dozens of gunshot victims" were found at the scene.
Among the casualties, three individuals two men and a woman were declared dead on-site, while a fourth victim succumbed to injuries at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. In total, over 20 people were injured, with some arriving at hospitals via private vehicles.
The motive behind this horrific act remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made yet. Officer Fitzgerald assured the public, stating, "We will do everything we possibly can to make sure we uncover, identify, and hunt down whoever is responsible for preying on our people this morning."
