Esther

President of the Libyan Football Federation, Abdelhakim Al-Shalmani has officially resigned from his position. This announcement was made during a regular meeting of the Federation’s General Assembly.

Al-Shalmani expressed his discontent with the current state of Libyan sports, stating, "I do not want to be part of the failure in Libyan sports." He acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure and extended his gratitude to all members of the General Assembly, saying, "We faced difficulties during the previous period. I thank all members of the General Assembly, and I forgive everyone from all segments of the sports sector."

Despite the circumstances leading to his resignation, Al-Shalmani stood firm on his record of service, highlighting his history in the International, Arab, and African Federations.

His resignation comes at a turbulent time for Libyan football, coinciding with tensions surrounding the treatment of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, who faced massive delays and 'inhumane treatment' upon their arrival in Libya for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Nigerian team resolved not to play the match due to safety concerns, and plans were made to fly them back home. The Libyan Football Federation attributed the delay to routine air traffic and logistical challenges, rejecting any claims of foul play.
