A New York author was arrested for allegedly assaulting a stranger over a Donald Trump 2024 hat.

The altercation took place at Tops Friendly Markets just days before Election Day, as reported by local authorities. Robert Yott, 60, known in his community for his military history books, is accused of confronting a supporter of former President Donald Trump.

According to the village of Bath police, Yott approached the individual wearing the Trump 2024 hat and proceeded to punch him multiple times in the mouth and head.

This violent encounter resulted in the victim suffering a bloody mouth and broken teeth. The police department described the incident as a "random act of violence," reflecting the volatile political climate as the nation braces for the upcoming election between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Yott has been charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
