The Nigerian military has issued a direct challenge to former militant leader Mujahid Asari Dokubo, inviting him to confront them on the battlefield.
This development follows Dokubo's provocative threats to shoot down military helicopters, which he made amidst the political turmoil surrounding the local government elections in Rivers State.
The tension between Asari Dokubo and the Nigerian military has been simmering, particularly after Dokubo's recent claims of being able to "contain the Nigerian military." His statements came in response to the deployment of police forces to Rivers State, a move that coincided with the controversial local elections there. In a video circulated on social media, Dokubo boasted about his capabilities, further inflaming the situation.
Reacting to these threats, Maj Gen Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, publicly challenged Dokubo, stating that if he showed up on the battlefield, he would be "neutralised."
Buba dismissed Dokubo's comments as laughable, emphasizing the professionalism and democratic principles guiding the military's actions. He remarked, “Our mandate is to confront him on the battlefield and take him out. He should come to the battlefield and see whether we can react or not.”
