The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, lauded President Bola Tinubu as a "gift to Nigeria," highlighting his commitment to launching an important legacy projects that promise to transform the nation's infrastructure landscape.
Umahi revealed that the current administration inherited over 2,000 incomplete road projects, amounting to trillions of naira, underscoring the monumental task at hand.
The minister emphasized the government's proactive stance in addressing these challenges by terminating contracts with non-compliant companies. "We have terminated over 10 contracts of big companies and we have the mind to terminate more," Umahi stated, reflecting the administration's resolve to ensure accountability and progress.
A focal point of the discussion was the ambitious 63km segment of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, which is set to pass through seven states. This project is expected to open up new business opportunities and enhance connectivity across the region.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State expressed gratitude for President Tinubu's inclusion of Ondo in these developmental initiatives, noting that such projects are not politically motivated but are aimed at fostering economic growth.
The administration's focus on infrastructure development is seen as a strategic move to address longstanding infrastructural challenges, thereby boosting economic potential and improving the quality of life for Nigerians. As Umahi aptly put it, "Nigerians should be grateful that we have a listening President. He is committed to all sectors.
This country still has a lot of potential." The sentiment was echoed by Banji Okunomo, a representative of the Riverine communities, who appreciated President Tinubu for ensuring that the road projects pass through their domain, thus promising to bridge the connectivity gap in the region.
The collaborative efforts between the federal government, state governments, and local communities highlight a unified approach to national development, reinforcing the belief that President Tinubu's leadership is indeed a gift to Nigeria.
