Most Northerners Can no Longer Afford a Square Meal Per Day - Arewa Groups Expresses Concern

Esther

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has raised major concerns about the dire socio-economic conditions in northern Nigeria. According to on Sunday, the coalition highlights two primary challenges: insecurity and hunger. These issues are so severe that many residents in the region cannot afford even a single square meal daily.

The CNG's lamentation is rooted in the persistent insecurity and economic hardship affecting the North. The coalition's statements, as reported, emphasize that "insecurity is walking with its two legs in the North," illustrating the pervasive nature of the threat. This insecurity, coupled with economic challenges, has led to a situation where basic sustenance is out of reach for many.

The coalition's concerns are not isolated but part of a broader pattern of socio-economic decline in the region. The CNG attributes these issues to a leadership crisis, suggesting that both governmental neglect and self-serving political practices have exacerbated the situation.

As Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the National Coordinator, stated, "It's very unfortunate we don’t have leaders in this country. All we have in this country are politicians."

In response to these challenges, the CNG advocates for grassroots involvement and community-driven solutions. They stress the importance of community members understanding their role in addressing these issues, rather than relying solely on government intervention. Charanchi's call to action signifies the belief that "we are the government," urging communities to take ownership of their circumstances.
