The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced major achievements in its ongoing operations against terrorism and illegal activities.
According to a statement by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, airstrikes successfully neutralized terrorists in Zamfara State and destroyed illegal refining sites in Rivers State.
The operations were part of the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch, which has been actively targeting terrorists responsible for recent attacks on civilians, abductions, and cattle rustling within Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.
Intelligence revealed that these terrorists were based in Kaduna State. Consequently, an air interdiction mission was executed in Malum forest, Kaduna, resulting in the elimination of several terrorists.
Similar strikes were conducted on hideouts at Bayan Ruwa in Maradun LGA of Zamfara State, where terrorists were tracked to zinced-roofed structures in a vegetated area with few footpaths and a river line northwest of the location. The targets were "acquired and engaged in successive passes," leading to the neutralization of numerous terrorists.
In the Niger Delta Region, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe conducted patrols over Ohaji/Egbema in Imo State and Degema and Cawthorne Channel in Rivers State.
These patrols identified and destroyed over 25 illegal refining sites and overhead tanks. Specifically, in Greenville, Rivers State, a leaking pipeline was observed, with the leakage spreading across a 150-meter radius, negatively impacting vegetation, aquatic habitats, and farmlands.
