The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert warning Nigerians against the use of the recalled Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant.

This product, which is marketed as providing 48-hour protection in African climates, has been flagged by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) in Brussels due to safety concerns. The specific batch number affected is 93529610, and it is manufactured in Germany with the Bar Code Number 42299882.

The recall was prompted by the presence of 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl propionaldehyde (BMHCA), a chemical prohibited in cosmetic products because it can cause harm to the reproductive system, impair the health of an unborn child, and lead to skin irritation and burns.

NAFDAC has advised importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and use of the affected Nivea Roll-on deodorant.

Members of the public who possess the affected batch are urged to cease its sale or use and submit any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. Additionally, healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to NAFDAC through their official channels, including email at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, E-reporting platforms available at www.nafdac.gov.ng, or via the Med-safety application available for download on Android and iOS devices.
