The staff of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have initiated an indefinite nationwide strike, effective from October 7, 2024.
This action follows the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the agency's management.
The strike was triggered by unresolved issues that were discussed in a meeting held on October 4.
The primary grievances include the results of the 2024 promotion examination, which revealed a pass rate of only 35 percent.
The union is demanding a minimum benchmark of 80 percent for this year's and future promotion exams. Additionally, there is a call for the settlement of salary arrears for employees hired in 2022.
In a statement, Ejor Michael, the Secretary of the association, accused NAFDAC management of neglecting their grievances, describing the inaction as "insufferable."
The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) is spearheading the strike, instructing workers to withdraw all services and vacate their offices. Employees have been advised to remove personal belongings as the strike commences.
